Smriti Mandhana, the stellar player of the Indian Women’s cricket team was ecstatic about the victory and securing the gold at Asiad 2023 held at Hangzhou on the 25th of September, 2023. Mandhana had her eyes brimmed with tears when the national anthem was played at the stadium. She has even described this moment as an auspicious and special moment as she and her team were able to contribute to the medal tally of the Indian contingent at the multi-sport event. Furthermore, the 27-year-old said in an interview with ANI(Asian News International) that she had witnessed this when Neeraj Chopra had secured the gold and as the flag of India went up after the match and the national anthem began she couldn’t stop the tears that started filling up her eyes happy to know that she and her team gave the best and could contribute to the nation.

A terrific and fascinating play by Titas Sandhu and equally excellent bowling by Devika Vaidya and Deepti Sharma helped the team to tackle a score of 117 runs and clinch the gold medal in the women’s cricket team category at the ongoing Asian Games held at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou. They beat their opponent, Sri Lanka, in the final match by 19 runs on Monday at the stadium of Hangzhou. This marked the first gold medal captured by the Indian Women’s cricket team on their first Asiad outing.

The gold medal match between India and Sri Lanka at the Asian Games 2023 was quite competitive for the majority of the day. The Indian team chose to bat first and set a target of 117/7 in the allotted 20-over match, with Smriti Mandhana’s fantastic knock of 46 runs in 45 balls. On the other hand, Jemimah Rodrigues scored 42 runs off 40 balls in the inning.

As for the Sri Lankan team, Udeshika Prabodhani took 2 wickets for 16 runs, Inoka Ranaweer took 2 wickets as well for 21 runs along with Sugandika Kumari who gained two wickets for 30 runs.

Pursuing a low target, the Indian team confined Sri Lanka to just 97 runs for 8 loss making the Indian Women’s cricket team win their first-ever gold.

Titas Sandhu, star of the match and bowling department was the first pick of the bowlers who took down three batters in only 6 runs, which is commendable. Up next, Rajeshwari Gayakwad took down two wickets, and lastly, Devika Vaidya took down one wicket.
